Regan Farquhar aka Busdriver is one of L.A’s most essential musical exports. A revered lyricist, producer and forward-thinker, he began rapping at age nine, releasing his debut album ‘Memoirs of the Elephantman’ in 1999. His eccentric, electric flow and challenging lyrical content outlined him as a unique and dynamic artist - an antidote to mainstream rap and all the fake posturing that comes with it.
Ten albums deep and now signed to Big Dada, his most recent LP ‘Perfect Hair’ found him at his inquisitive best, asking “who is hip-hop dating…what does hip-hop check in the gender box?”, providing a snapshot of someone who has a lot to say, and uses hip hop on his own terms as a way to say it. Back in Europe for a rare tour this spring, he makes an exclusive appearance at 02ABC on Sunday night and we’re hosting a competition to win two tickets – skip to the end to find out how to enter.
Support on Sunday comes from Glasgow’s own Handpicked Cassette Tapes, a home-grown collective who champion the city’s very best bedroom producers and beat makers. Having released their first cassette compilation in 2013, they’ve built a reputation for unearthing real home-grown talent, with the likes of Bessa, Jetsam, Tuscan Whale and Handpicked main man, Tuner, representing at Sunday’s show.
Having performed on the SynthGlasgow stage at Simple Things Festival, we can highly recommend getting down early to check them out. Expect sample-heavy hip hop and futuristic beats.
We’re giving you the opportunity to win two tickets to see Busdriver perform in Glasgow this Sunday courtesy of 02ABC. Simply head over to the SynthGlasgow Facebook and type ‘Busdriver’ on the wall (if you don’t have access to Facebook, you can also email firstname.lastname@example.org with ‘Busdriver’ as the subject, but please use Facebook where possible as it's much easier for us to process).
We’ll select one winner at random on Friday 15th April and notify them via Facebook comment (or by reply if entry is via email). If we receive no reply from the winner within 24hrs, a new winner will be picked. Once we pass on the winner’s name to the event organisers, we then pass on responsibility for entry to the event.
