Glasgow’s newest club, Club Action, enters its third weekend of parties tonight with a stellar line-up which sees Swiss sensation, Deetron, joined by fellow countryman, Ripperton, for a Character label night. Providing support will be Glasgow’s Carlos Nilmmns, a producer who has long-standing heritage with the city. Originally signed to Dominic Cappello and Graham Wilson’s Seventh Sign Recordings back in the early 2000s, Carlos has since gone on to release six albums and countless EPs with a sound which is rooted in classic Detroit, incorporating elements of jazz, funk and soul into emotive house and techno.
His recent EP for Circus Company, ‘True Chemistry’, delves deep into the Motor City groove, with three raw cuts which have a mesmerising and classic quality (check ‘Universal Beauty’ with vocalist Keter Darker for some true inner-city soul). With releases forthcoming on Character and Ornaments, as well as a series of collaborations with Niko Marks on his new album for Plant-e, this is a good time to get acquainted with one of Glasgow’s finest exports.
Ahead of his set at Club Action tonight, we asked Carlos to pick five tracks which have been moving his dancefloor, from the deep and divine to the jacked-up and pumping:
1/ LIBERTY CITY – SOME LOVIN’ (Murk)
“Amazing track from 1992. I've played this track a few times in Paris and other parts of France and its throbbing bass always seems welcome to the ladies!”
2/ AARON CLARL – HARD LIFE (Underground Resistance)
“This track is perfect for getting people moving at the start of the night. Soulful music from the late Aaron Carl.”
3/ SASCHA DIVE – TRIBUTE (DISCO VERSION) (Ornaments)
“Sascha Dive delivers a thumping workout whilst keeping it classy like usual. From the same label that’s released many of my tracks.”
4/ JOHN DALY – SHINE (Love Fever)
“Wonderful, cool and clever track.”
5/ MR.G – ABSURD BEATZ NO.4 (Rekids)
“Man, this track! That off-chord; the one that skips in and out!”
