Throwing a pool party in Scotland is always going to be a gamble, but come rain or shine, you know Subcity Radio will make it hot. This Saturday (20th), Subcity takes the party to Gourock’s outdoor swimming pool, where some of the station’s freshest selectors, including Beat The Bush, International Date Line and The Rainbow Dome, will set off summer.

Bussing troops out of Glasgow with the promise of free beer and BBQ, it’s likely to sizzle on the west coast no matter what the weather lady says, and with an afterparty lined-up at Stereo, the fun will continue well into Sunday morning.

To get into the vibe, we asked two of tomorrow’s selectors, Beat The Bush and International Date Line, to compile a pool party playlist, and as you’d expect, it’s full of flavour:

BEAT THE BUSH

“We picked Parliament because not only is it an excellent example of the pure unhinged excellence of the P-Funk mob, but the lyrics are also about how the baddie from the P-Funk mythos, Sir Nose D'voidoffunk, never learned to swim. The lyrics to the Central Line track are about going on your holidays, which is where you usually find outdoor pools, plus it's like a reverse-rain dance to try and make the sun come out on Saturday. ‘Underwater’ is in there because Harry Thumann was German and it opens up a rich vein of stereotypes about getting there early to get a sun lounger.”

INTERNATIONAL DATE LINE

“Firstly, ‘Groovejet’ samples a plane so therefore it's perfect. A pool party is something that exists in Jet2 holiday brochures, 90s music videos or in my dreams; except this time it’s in Gourock Outdoor Pool and I've never been happier. ‘Musica Feliz’ because what I imagine a pool party to be is completely based on a family holiday to Ibiza when I was 12 and one evening at Cafe Del Mar; plus I've been waiting 8 years to wear the baby blue cap I bought in the Pacha shop again. Finally, splash noises and dolphin samples in an Ariana Grande juke rework. Pool. Party. Vibes.”

Subcity Radio’s Summer Pool Party is sold out, however you may find tickets on re-sale via the Facebook event. Entry to the Apres Swim afterparty at Stereo is £4 on the door or free if you've been atthe pool party.
