With their roots in legendary basement club, Chambre 69, and a party spirit which is still going strong some three years later, Stay Fresh has grown to become one of the most popular nights in Glasgow. Boasting a resident roster which includes Jasper James, Greenman and Joshua, the collective are known for their accessible music policy and a real passion for the party. This Saturday Stay Fresh join Sub Rosa and Thunder Disco Club for the third instalment of their Valentine’s ‘Purple Love’ series, where you can expect sweat, sex and dancefloor satisfaction. We’ll let resident and co-founder, Josh Barr take the lead…
“Stay Fresh started as a cheap party that focused on good times and good tunes. We wanted to try and fill a niche in the Glasgow clubbing scene that brought the silliness of a house party into a club environment. We’ve been promoting parties for over three years now and along the way met some amazing people and built an awesome fanbase! We’ve managed to do so by constantly striving to stay original and keep the night ‘fresh’ by using a wide range of venues, booking various DJ’s (both local and international) and also by collaborating with other forward-thinking promoters. The Purple Love Valentine’s warehouse collaboration has become one of our biggest dates in the calendar!
Three years ago our good friends from Sub Rosa and Thunder Disco Club approached us to DJ at a new Valentines club night they where promoting - it was madness! It worked really well and we had some amazing feedback, so we decided to make the night a threesome, turning it into an annual event and now here we are three years later still going in hard!
For this year's event we’ve expanded into the newly opened room at SWG3 which we first made use of at our Halloween party last year. It’s an amazing warehouse style space that we’ll be turning into a love dungeon for all the kinky clubbers coming down! Our selectors on the night are Stay Fresh residents Joshua and Greenman, but we’ve also managed to bring in a very special guest and very good friend Sam (Freaky Freaky).
Here’s an example of the tunes that you can expect to hear blasting out of our room, which also represent the vibe of the night as a whole…”
MTUME – JUICY FRUIT
“We like to start things off real nice and slow; you can’t just jump into this kinda party hard and fast, you don’t want to blow your load too quick! This track is responsible for one of the most iconic hip hop samples of all time and it’s so damn sexy! This is a really inspiring record for us at Stay Fresh as it brought two of our greatest loves together, 80's R&B and 90's Hip-Hop. R-I-P B-I-G!!!”
OUTKAST – HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY
“When you think Valentines party it’s hard not to think of this tune. Andre 3000 is undoubtedly one of the sexiest rappers alive and this album was and still is one of our favourites for being so original and inspiring. Outkast where so good to us back then by giving us two outstanding albums in the one amazing release, and this is one of the many classics that came from it!”
PAARIS MITCHELL PROJECT – ALL NIGHT LONG
“Bringing up the tempo with a rework of a Strictly Rhythm classic from Parris Mitchell. Like hip hop we believe house music was at its best in the 90’s and you can expect to hear a lot of house classics at any of our nights; but this one works especially well for Purple Love as the lyrics are pure filth and we love it!”
LIL LOUIS – FRENCH KISS
“Keeping things filthy with ‘French Kiss’ from the legend Lil Louis! Shocked to hear about his accident recently and hope his ears recover quickly enough for him to get back behind the decks soon, as he’s one of our favourite DJ's in the world. When this track gets dropped people get really freaky and the temperature levels of the club go way up!”
PRINCE – I WANNA BE YOUR LOVER
