The wait is nearly over…this weekend Skye Live welcomes some truly exceptional electronic and live talent to one of the most beautiful islands in the world, kick-starting festival season in the process.
Now in its second year, Skye Live will host a raft of Glaswegian DJs, including Jackmaster, Denis Sulta and legendary Subculture residents, Harri & Domenic, alongside international acts ranging from Innervisions duo, Âme, to Simian Mobile Disco and Bicep.
Also making the journey up the West Coast this weekend, with an extended set planned for Saturday afternoon, is The Revenge and OOFT! - two of Glasgow’s finest selectors when it comes to grooving house, delectable disco and raw, jacking beats. Respected label owners of Roar Groove and Foto Recordings respectively, you may have caught one of their essential Vs nights at The Berkeley Suite recently or heard them fire up the Sub Club on any number of occasions.
Ahead of their 3hr B2B, we asked them to select three tracks each which will get the Dance Tent moving come rain or shine. Based on their selection, Skye Live is going to sound pretty sweet this Saturday:
Gary Gritness – ‘Preachin’ Some Tight Game’ (Hypercolour)
“Right...if the sun appears this is getting played, or maybe it’ll make the sun appear when I play it. Sounds like some ancient cassette jam from a dusty drawer, but absolutely tickles the loins consistently.”
Gil Scott-Heron – ‘The Bottle (Mr Mendel Edit)’ (Soundcloud)
“I find festivals really difficult to plan ahead for as there are so many variables (such as time of day, weather, other acts on etc) that can affect your set. That being said, for this weekend we're playing quite early so hopefully we'll ease everyone in to having a good time. Feel good music to the fore then, and what's more feel good than a nice dollop of Gil?”
Elliot Thomas - ‘Ultimate Energy’ (Voyeurhythm)
“After a 6 hour car ride we’re gonna need something to get the juices going. This does exactly what it says on the tin: It’s got all those classic elements combined into one pumping, housey bouncer to get those arse muscles back in action.”
Quince – ‘Americana (2012 Edit)’ (TrouwAmsterdam)
“Quince is one of my favourite producers, although he seems to have dropped off the radar over the last few years. This one is another uplifting number; classy house with a nod to Detroit. It’s perfect to get festival-goers into the swing of things inside the dance tent.”
Shaun J Wright & Alinka – ‘My Heart Is Sincere’ (Crosstown Rebels)
“Stripped-down and to the point, like some old Cajmere track; simple and with very little fannying around is the order of the day here. It’s got a real menace to it, offset by the simple chord bits and the vocal.”
Laurence Guy – ‘Hutch’ (Rose Records)
“A man to watch for 2016 drops this string-laden gem on top label Rose Records. I can't get enough of this one at the moment - perfect for (hopefully) sunny weekend endeavours!”
