Cast your mind back twelve months and Glasgow’s club scene was about to experience a crushing blow. The prolonged, but ultimately decisive closure of The Arches meant that events were either cancelled, or in the case of Glasgow institution, Pressure, left without a home.

Thankfully Pressure was able to adapt, and its transition to warehouse complex, SWG3, has inducted a new era for one of the city’s most exciting (and enduring) techno nights. Since their opening party in September, residents and founders, Slam, have hosted everyone from Nina Kraviz to Guy Gerber, Len Faki to Bella Sarris, as well as supporting emerging local talent like Petrichor and Ivan Kutz.

It’s been a triumphant season which has been prolific for both promoter and venue, with SWG3’s expansion and refurbishment providing a new platform for the city’s biggest events. With Pressure’s closing party this Sunday, we asked Slam and Soma Records co-founder and promoter Dave Clarke to pick some of the highlights and records which have made this a season one to remember:

1/ “Only the second time the new main room (which was purpose built for Pressure) opened and it was also our 17th birthday featuring Carl Craig's Detroit Love upstairs. Intense sets by Slam, Marcel Dettmann and Nina Kraviz sound-tracked the celebrations for an amazing crowd; it was as good a vibe as anywhere on the planet - unbeatable!”

Slam - Make You Move (Soma Track Series)

2/ “When we opened the new main room for the first time on Halloween the work had not quite been completed. Peter Van Hoesen and Stuart (Slam) found dust masks and boiler suits that the workies had left in the back, so they donned these outfits and all of a sudden Orde turns round and sees Altern8 on stage with him. He's looking round for security to help check them off the stage, not having a clue who these pair of freaks were!”

Dax J - Utopia (Ear To The Ground)

3/ “Skream and Scuba decided they would be going back to back all night in the upstairs warehouse for the first time - we found out along with the rest of the fans on Twitter earlier on the day of the show!”

Ilario Alicante - No End (Soma)

4/ “On Boxing night we filled the place with an all Glasgow line-up that didn’t even include the Governors Slam, who were down at MuMu in Liverpool. Gary Beck, Harvey McKay, Silicone Soul, Hans Bouffmyre aka Secluded, Deepbass and Edit Select did us proud.”

Cleric - The Key Of Night (Figure)

5/ “Our lighting wizard Scott McDonald has done an amazing job designing a spectacular show in the main room. He likes using the smoke machine too, and before SWG3 invested in the new fans to clear the smoke it was like a scene from John Carpenter's classic horror film 'The Fog ' in there. There was smoke going up the backstairs and blinding the DJs on stage!”

Charles Fenckler - Frozen Room (Soma)

Pressure’s end of season closing party takes places this Sunday (May 1st) at SWG3, featuring Slam, Adam Beyer, Robert Hood, Edit Select, Funk D’Void and more. Advance tickets are available on the Slam website via Resident Advisor.
