With her label Heka Trax home to some of the most energetic, future-facing club music you’re likely to hear, Glasgow-based producer, Nightwave, is on a mission to shake up the dancefloor. As a graduate of the Red Bull Music Academy, Maya Medvesek has honed a sound which fuses juke with jack, grime with ghetto, focused purely on causing it and having a good time. This attitude extends to her label, and with releases from the likes of Big Dope P and Blastto detonating the dance, Hekatrax has become a staple for freeform party music.
This Friday (26th), Nightwave has rounded up some of the label’s most colourful talent for a showcase at the Art School, inviting the aforementioned Big Dope P to play alongside Blastto, Esqueezy and Ed Banger’s Feadz. We checked in with Nightwave to find out what track is likely to set off the fire alarm when she steps up to the decks:
“I've been hooked on this track since Taso sent it over a little while ago. He's an amazing DJ and producer; I'm a big fan of his and anything Teklife! I love the tempo switches and drops in this tune and you can't go wrong with a bit of 303 - I can't wait to drop it at The Art School. By the way, this is now available for download along with a bunch of fire tracks including collabs with Spinn, Manny and the late, great DJ Rashad, so everyone should grab it!”
Nightwave plays alongside Feadz, Big Dope P, Blastto and Esqueezy at a Heka Trax label showcase this Friday (26th) at the Art School. Advance tickets are available via the Art School website. Taso – ‘Acid’ can be downloaded for free via bandcamp.
