At 23 years-old, Calum MacRae aka Lanark Artefax is quite possibly Glasgow’s most exciting new talent, and you need only listen to his new ‘Impact’ mix for Mixmag to understand why.

Having featured in our consistently on-point ‘ones to watch’ list earlier this year, his experimental productions truly challenge convention. 2016’s ‘Glasz EP’ was both futuristic and fearless, while his latest offering on Nic Tasker’s Whities label is a shattering collection of razor-sharp, machine beats with a subtle, but essential human touch.

“I'm always trying to point towards a thing that I can't describe, and the music is trying to articulate something that is impossible to articulate” he tells Mixmag. “With abstract music you can get closer to representing that.”
