“Utter madness” was how one punter described it and we’re inclined to agree. It takes a certain commitment to head out in the pissing rain for over three hours of hardcore on a Sunday evening, but with four of Glasgow’s finest DJs behind the decks, it all made perfect sense.

Dusting off their Bonkers classics, Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, Jackmaster and Cloudo played one of the most ridiculous sets we’ve ever had the pleasure of witnessing between the very sociable hours of 6-10pm. Given that this was an impromptu event (only announced last Thursday via Facebook), the intimate Poetry Club was absolutely jumping as the bpm climbed north of 160 and the strobe went into overdrive.

Beginning the evening with some trance classics (‘Out Of The Blue’, ‘Resurrection’, ‘Carte Blanche’ all present), it was a case of “reach for the lasers” from the get-go as the four DJs took it in turns to unleash the biggest breakdown from the club’s balcony. Come 7pm, however, it all descended into complete chaos as hardcore belters from DJ Hixxy, Sharkey and Scott Brown (who may or may not have tagged the men's toilets) punched through the soundsystem, initiating a bouncy Dougal and Gammer would be proud of.

At the adjacent bar there were a few who were clearly a bit bemused by the whole scenario, but for the most part it was fist pumping and cheesers all round, with many of the LuckyMe family getting in on the action too. What a nice way to spend a Sunday evening.
