We don’t know about you, but getting out of bed this morning was grim; the bank holiday hangover is giving us The Fear and we’re wondering if the weekend excess was worth it (it definitely was). Thankfully we earmarked a new mix from Glasgow’s resident soundsystem, Mungo’s Hi Fi, in anticipation of the inevitable comedown today, and it’s sounding so so sweet.
Recorded for Clash in celebration of Mungo’s new album, ‘You See Me Star’, the mix features 40 minutes of dubplate specials which are tailored specifically for the crew’s sound. Specialising in dub, reggae, dancehall and bashment, Mungo’s Hi Fi have been throwing parties in Glasgow (and around the world) for over fifteen years, recognised for hosting one of the heaviest soundsystems in the land while also producing a series of acclaimed albums.
Speaking to Clash they said: “This mix is a selection of dubplate specials we've collected for Mungo's. These tunes are recorded especially for our sound and can only be played by our sound - a tradition that also started in the early 80s dancehall. We hope you enjoy listening to this mix as much as we enjoyed recording it; these dubs still give us butterflies!"
