Peace The Illest & Arm Wtchs Fngrs - Mo Money EP
You may remember us raving about Peace (now named Peace, The Illest) back at the beginning of May, his web-released Hungry EP was an eclectic selection of some of his finest beats and a strong indication of just how much potential this young producer holds. The EP went on to claim much blog coverage and standout track ‘Sunburst’ even got picked up by Radio 1. Now, he has teamed up with fellow Glasgow producer Arm Wtchs Fngrs, who apart from boasting a name that requires more than a passing glance also shares the same frenetic sound which first attracted us to Peace.
Scheduled for release tomorrow via free download, the duo have brought together four of their most exciting new tracks as well as the hugely popular ‘Tropics’ which we supported heavily on our weekly radio show. As with the Hungry EP, you will be immediately struck by how positively eccentric the whole thing is – it would be pointless trying to slap it with some meaningless genre, the guys themselves have branded it as ‘Fucking Awesome’ and that is about as relative as anything we could come up with. Pushed into a corner and with a BPM counter to hand it is leaning towards Hip Hop more than anything else, but with a cosmic flavour which refuses to be defined. Find yourself falling into ominous 8-bit bleeps and razor-sharp bass on ‘U Y’ before surfacing through Caribbean drums and sunshine denoted melodies, or on EP opener ‘Sucker Punch’, be eased in by what sounds like lounge music recorded in the lobby of The Grosvenor before bouncing through Compton to the soundtrack of the future. The point is, here are two young producers with a fresh perception of modern electronic music, it’s their sound, and much like their beats who knows where they’ll end up.
