Local Hero: Rob Etherson - Floating Point

Rob Etherson must be busy – other then forming one half of up and coming Techno outfit Ovr Kill, plus genre-blurring UK Bass practitioners, Mia Dora he also takes time to produce some quality solo material. Here we see him drop the tempo for a techy House number which breathes deep but rolls with driving purpose. A solid bassline and reflective chords make this perfect for the warm up/sunset/sunrise.

Another producer that is no stranger to our Local Hero column is the superbly talented (and generous) Barrientos. Releasing another quality, free download, he once again captures the very essence of summer here. Bubbling up with Balearic piano chords and a very groovy brass line, the resulting drop hits with instant bliss. We’re waiting patiently for news on the release of his incoming EP, but this will certainly do in the meantime.

Ahh, Slow It Down – if you want to induce a face-wide grin then you can always trust Glasgow’s finest edit team to deliver it. This time they’ve taken on Madonna in a tongue and cheek re-rub of ‘Holiday’. Extending the groove far beyond conceivable measures, the resulting feel-good factor is something to behold. We were there when they first dropped this at One More Tune and let’s just say it got the girls on the floor.

Finally, here’s a rather sweet remix of Glasgow-based band Acrylic Iqon. We have to praise Warschauer here for identifying the quite indiscernible pop-appeal of the original vocals, as placed over an uplifting, indie-dance Electro beat they take on an entirely different persona. We’re unsure whether this has been commissioned as an official remix but if you want to take indie-rock onto the dancefloor, this is how you do it.
