Quickie: S-Type's Top5

QUICKIE: S-Type's Top5

It’s 2am, the floor in Chambre69 is a mass of sweaty bodies, all jostling for space in front of the elevated DJ booth. Presiding over them is Bobby Perman aka S-Type, one of Glasgow’s most exciting up and coming producers. With booming 808’s and razor-sharp synths, his sound rolls with the current wave of low-slung, futuristic Hip Hop the city is becoming increasingly known for - and the crowd love it. Residing with the constantly innovating LuckyMe collective and with a new EP entitled 'Billboard' incoming, he has been causing quite a stir on the local scene for some time, while also inflicting dancefloor damage at the likes of Sonar, Rockness and Loud Minority. Hot on the heels of fellow Glaswegians, Hudson Mohawke and Rustie, S-Type is a name you’re going to be hearing a lot more of…

Check out his top5 below and look out for more news on that EP soon:

1 BAAUER - DUM DUM (LuckyMe)

I'd heard this played out in clubs for the last year or so but had no idea who it was by until a few months ago when I heard that LuckyMe were releasing it on 12". All about the midi sax.

2 CID RIM - DRAW (DORIAN CONCEPT REMIX) (LuckyMe)

The jazzy piano intro is just beautiful, you don't really know what to expect - then it drops into a proper big anthem. One of my favourite tunes from this year.

3 PIFF GANG - CANDY CUP (From the 'Plantlife' Mixtape)

Piff Gang are definitely my favourite hip hop act from the UK just now. Nobody's making rap music like this over here, it's very refreshing. I can tell they're gonna blow up. Great trippy video to this one too.

4 KENDRICK LAMAR - SWIMMING POOL (TopDawgENT)

Probably Kendrick's most radio-friendly song to date, but by no means generic. He's definitely one of the most talented rappers out right now, it's good to see him getting the recognition he deserves.

5 SCHOOLBOY Q - PARTY (TopDawgENT)

Another member of TDE/Black Hippy crew, Schoolboy isn't quite as technical as Kendrick, but he's just as dope. As the title suggests, this is a party track. The bass line is almost dubsteppy, but don't let that put you off.
