COMPETITION: Subculture Presents Todd Terje

You’ll notice a rather persistant use of the word ‘cosmic’ when reading about Norwegian man of the moment, Todd Terje. Considering his peers it’s perhaps no surprise - Lindstrom and Prins Thomas have been at the forefront of dreamy Disco for the best part of ten years - however Terje Olsen is insistent that his music is not simply tagged with the latest buzz words. His sound (although deeply mesmerising in places), often reaches far beyond what can be considered as quintessentially ‘cosmic’. Last year’s essential ‘Ragysh’ is proof of that. A Balearic masterpiece which ruled Ibiza, it became an unlikely ‘hands in the air’ moment for some of the island’s biggest players.

And it was certainly a long time coming. Although prolific with his edits (everything from Chic to Common), original releases have been few and far between. With the advent of ‘Ragysh’ all that changed, marking an influx of quality remixes and productions. Fresh takes on the aforementioned Lindstrom, Joakim and even Roxy Music all propelled him into the wider conscience, bolstered of course by the exceptional ‘It’s The Arps EP’, base for the irresistible ‘Inspector Norse’, a tune which has quite literally taken on a life of its own this year.

But it’s not just his edits and productions which make Todd Terje one of dance music’s most prolific names; it’s been his quite fascinating rise as a DJ that has captured many people’s imagination. While working a demanding audience in his native Norway, he found himself having to radically change his style on claiming his first foreign booking. Since then, his ability to adapt to city, crowd and country while maintaining the fundamentals of entertaining and not just educating have made him a solid favourite. With a special appearance at Subculture this weekend, your Saturday night will most definitely be in safe hands…

The competition closes at 6pm on Fri 24th August and the winner will be notified via Facebook shortly after. The winner must be 18 years or older. After we have passed on the winner’s details to the event organisers we then pass on responsibility for entry on the night.

Entry to this event is pay on the door, priced at £12. Doors open at 10.30pm.
