Quickie: Affi Koman's Top5

QUICKIE: Affi Koman's Top5

This Sunday marks five years since the Circus came to town. Five years since Ronnie, Affi and later Tricky took up monthly residency at Adrian's Bar and promises of transforming one of the city's hidden gems into a mini version of the terrace at Space or DC10 came to fruition. And although the weather may not always have complied and venues have changed over the years, their vision that Glasgow might have its very own matinee party where you could crack on from Saturday night or hurtle headlong into Monday morning has been well and truly realised. With guests ranging from Seth Troxler to Maya Jane Coles, Dyed Soundorom to Jozif, Sunday Circus has become a Glasgow institution which for many takes its rightful place alongside Subculture or Optimo.

This weekend they celebrate their fifth birthday by inviting Sebo K and Fabric’s Craig Richards to a secret location, set within a restored Victorian cotton mill just outside Edinburgh. We decided to catch up with Circus resident, Affi Koman for his top5 tunes of the moment and a little taster of what to expect this Sunday:

EINZELKIND - BLUES FOR YOUS (ROMAN FLUGEL REMIX) [Cecille]

"If you don't like this, then you are definitely insane. Relentless groove that keeps you locked in with an amazing arrangement and sound. Ps. Fluegel is a beast, his remix of Radio Slave's 'My Bleep' on Rekids is 6 years old but still sounds fresher than some of the tripe you hear nowadays."

2 GLIMPSE & ALEX JONES - FAULTY FEMALE [Hypercolour]

"Dark, chugging, druggy, pitched down Techno. I found this on my Mum's iPod."

AZARI & III - INTO THE NIGHT (NICHOLAS JAAR REMIX) [Loose Lips]

"Not something I would necessarily play out, maybe at the start of an early set - but if you're rolling about the floor of your mate's flat at 2pm the following day, it is perfect for such an activity."

4 MR. C[A]PENDICS.SHUFFLE - SOMETHING STRANGE (MIKE SHANNON DUB) [Adjunct Audio]

"I always forget to play this track, but I love it. So well produced and full of wonky noises and vocals. It paints pictures in my head - the main one being a circle of singing lambs dressed in Tudor garb."

5 CHAIMADI SHABAT - LEVANTINA [Bpitch Control]

"Massively hypnotic vibe from an appropriately entitled EP called 'Robots on Meth'."
