PREVIEW: Numbers 9th Birthday W/ Jackmaster, Oneman & Ben UFO

After the unfortunate demise of last weekend’s Bloc festival in which Numbers were due to take on a monumental soundclash with Swamp81, it’s perhaps a blessing that only one week later they can return to their rightful home, forget about the dissapointment and celebrate being yet another year closer to that landmark decade. Yes, tonight one of the world’s most consistently on-point and productive labels will mark nine years since they launched, and with Jackmaster, Oneman and Ben UFO set to go back to back all night long, this will undoubtedly be one of the biggest events of the summer.

There’s perhaps little point in detailing nine years of Numbers history, such is the label’s prevalence, but if you want to bullet point some notable releases, think tunes such as Mosca’s ‘Bax’ (recently adopted by Katy B), Jamie XX ‘Far Nearer’ and the exceptional Jessie Ware/Sbtrkt collaboration ‘Nervous’ – and that’s only the last two years. Here in Glasgow the label has an almost religious following, the product of home-grown pride and some of the best club nights the city has ever seen. Needless to say, tonight’s event at Chambre69 continues with that theme, enlisting two of the label’s closest affiliates for one serious get-down.

Both Ben UFO and Oneman share the Numbers ethos, launching labels Hessle Audio and 502 Recordings respectively, while delivering blistering DJ sets on each and every occasion. Like Jackmaster, they have never released a record but have demanded the attention of promoters, press and radio thanks to raw talent behind the decks. You can expect this talent to be glaringly obvious tonight as they rifle through sounds ranging from classic House & Techno to upfront Garage and Bass, always focused strictly on the party and giving the dancefloor just what they need.
