Local Hero: Julius Funkhouser - Mist

LOCAL HERO: Julius Funkhouser - Mist

Sometimes a tune just resonates. It’s hard to describe, but when you hear certain songs there is an instant connection which is hard to put into words. Emotionally charged, overwhelmingly reflective and shimmering with outstanding beauty, Julius Funkhouser’s ‘Mist’ is one such tune. Stretched over nearly nine minutes of glorious tranquillity, this is one to save for that elusive sunset.

You know a couple weeks back when we said almost any of the tunes from Instruments Of Rapture’s ‘The Streets Are Alive…’ compilation could take the title? Well that is still very much the case as the 6th Borough Project’s contribution ‘Home Alone’ lights up the dancefloor with one of the freshest edits since Greg Wilson took on Paul Haig. The funk is strong in this one.

And continuing in a suitably sexy direction, here is something hot from LuckyMe’s Dema who recently provided us with an outstanding Synth Presents mix. Entitled ‘Klear Love’ this is quite frankly the smoothest thing you’ll hear this year and we can already see it coming back to take our title once we escape its honey-combed love grip. Prepare for seduction in 3, 2, 1…

Finally, we reported on Heartbeat’s ‘Soul to Sole’ compilation yesterday as being one of their finest yet, so choosing only one track to fit into our Local Hero rundown was always going to be hard. In the end we opted for Will Da Beast’s ‘Jimmy Snack’ which is perhaps the most experimental of the bunch. Coming on like Burial at his most supernatural, this is simply atmosphere unlimited.
