Local Hero: Harvey McKay - Pressure

LOCAL HERO: Harvey McKay - Pressure

It’s been a while since we gave the title to an all-out Tech-House roller, but this new release from Harvey McKay on the Trapez label was too big to ignore. 5am at the afters is where you’re going to hear this as burning vocal cuts fade into darkness over an industrial foundation. Menacing bleeps complete the package, making ‘Pressure’ something of a subtly devastating banger.

On a slightly less ominous note, here is a hot new remix from Barrientos which we featured towards the end of last week. Taking on Glaswegian indie band Queen Jane, the rapidly ascending producer hits the mark again with Balearic-bliss seeping from ever note. Marrying gorgeously reflective vocals with drifting synths, this has Ibiza, vodka-limon and sunrise written all over it.

And here’s yet more unreserved heat from last week’s Local Hero, Ali OOFT! Perhaps one of the most consistent producers to grace out columns, this new remix for Spanish producer Nacho Marco is deep, scintillating and overwhelmingly seductive. Building from a simple yet engaging bassline, the track peaks with a glistening breakdown which soars into the horizon.

Finally, we complete this week’s emerging theme of quality House as Boom Merchant makes his first appearance on Synth with the utterly beautiful ‘Drop EP’. Born in Ireland but raised in Spain, it’s perhaps no wonder that this emanates Mediterranean flavour, the lead track sparkling with the introspective nuance of late 90’s House. The flipside is more aggressive, but for us ‘The Drop’ is where it’s at.
