LOCAL HERO: Illyus - The Rescue

Without slipping into a fit of over-exaggeration this was genuinely one of the hardest decisions we’ve had to make for our Local Hero award - infact so much good music was uploaded to Soundcloud this week we’re practically set til 2013. Taking the title though is a new track from certified one to watch, Illyus. Quietly bubbling away for a few months now, we’ve got a feeling this guy has a one way ticket to blow as tracks like ‘The Rescue’ ooze a flowing late-night buzz which is hard to ignore. Oh man, shit just got real. Here comes some dark and dangerous dub action from Mixed Bizness/Bad News mega fam, NoFace. Unleashed as a free download last week and emanating the type of underground flavour which gets deep inside your chest, ‘Knowun’ is a bass-behemoth which although understated, simply stands on its own as a Class A bomb ready to explode at any moment. We’re into this.

Another project which has been blipping under the radar for some time, but (in our humble opinion) is on the verge of taking off, comes from the Mount Heart Attack camp in the form of MermaidS. We’re not sure where they get their samples, but boy do they know how to use them. ‘Deep In It’ is a sumptuous slice of Disco which grooves right through to Monday morning. Perfect for a day in the sun with enough vibes to resurrect Jimi Hendrix.

Finally, we warned you about this one yesterday in our Hudmo & Lunice – ‘Super Hype’ feature. Mirrors is on a bit of a roll at the moment and it seems he has an insatiable thirst for rolling out bangers. What makes this all the more impressive is that it stems from Rustie’s Boiler Room rip in which he dropped fresh heat from TNGHT. Grime, bounce or beat-down, whatever you want to call it, it’s going off.
