Local Hero: Mirrors - Dip You

LOCAL HERO: Mirrors - Dip You

We’re only five days into the New Year and already 2012 is shaping up to be something special. In an exclusive to Synth we’d like to introduce a new artist by the name of Mirrors and the super-slick ‘Dip You’. Irresistibly smooth and ridiculously danceable, you’ll find yourself hypnotised by a seriously addictive bassline and what can only be described as new-age House infused by 90’s Speed-Garage. January just got better.

It’s’ becoming harder and harder to select just one Local Hero a week, the quality and quantity coming out of Glasgow at the moment is truly astounding. Earlier this week we became transfixed by Inkke’s debut EP ‘Pink Dot’, eight tracks of other-worldly rhythms melting around a futuristic Hip Hop foundation. For us, the stand out is ‘Temple Rising’ - the soundtrack to an OG reunion on a planet that is yet to be discovered.

Ok, taking it in a completely different direction, here is a cheeky remix from Barrientos which cropped up over Christmas. Using the instantly agreeable vocals of Foster The People’s ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ and layering them over a gorgeously reflective piano line, you’ll find this a welcome reminder that even in the darkest corner of January, summer is infact just around the corner…

Finally, something utterly beautiful from Get Effect who has a knack for stopping you dead in your tracks. Remixing Edinburgh’s Orkid, this builds ever so subtly from glistening synths and Massive Attack-echoing chords into an over-flowing river of emotion.  Taking you under in as little as thirty seconds ‘Safety Awareness’ should be prescribed as anti-anxiety therapy.
