How's Your Party? Present...Benga (Win Tickets!)

In the last How’s Your Party? of 2011, Mixed Bizness have returned to an old favourite who has never once let them down. People who were lucky enough to witness his now legendary performance at the Art School last year will all testify that Beni Uthman aka Benga is one of the biggest party-starters this city has ever seen and his appearance at the Sub Club next Friday will no doubt only serve to strengthen that reputation. A pivotal player in the stratospheric rise of Dubstep, Benga is arguably one of the first superstars of a genre which only ten years ago was confined to the underground.
It was in 2008, that along with producing partner Coki, he unleashed what would become Dubstep’s biggest breakthrough to date. ‘Night’ was dark, tense and for many, an introduction to a sound which was still very much confined to London’s clubbing underworld. Even managing to make its way on to daytime radio, the track took on a life of its own and paved the way for Benga’s seminal album ‘Diary Of An Afro Warrior’ - arguably the most anticipated Dubstep album of the last decade.
Fast forward to 2010 and Dubstep has hit the charts. Produced by Benga, Katy B’s ‘Katy On A Mission’ reached a dizzying number 4, taking the genre around the world and marking the sound a global phenomenon. The same year, Dubstep’s first super-group, Magnetic Man broke into the mainstream. Consisting of childhood friend and producing partner Skream, as well as mentor Artwork and of course Benga himself, the trio had huge chart success with a number of singles which saw them take on a sold out UK tour and play coveted festival slots.
Unsurprisingly, Benga has continued to soar as one of Dubstep’s leading lights. From his highly popular Radio 1 show with Skream to levelling the mainroom at Space Ibiza, Benga has the energy, skill and passion to take things right to the limit. Put simply, this is what the Sub Club was made for.
Joining Benga on the night will be up and coming vocal talent Youngman, who after years as an MC on the Drum&Bass scene is finally ready to breakthrough in spectacular fashion. Being the son of legendary producer Simon ‘Bassline’ Smith, while residing on Shy FX’s Digital Soundboy label he has been immersed in the underground club scene from the start, building a reputation of immeasurable skill on the mic. Naturally he was encouraged to get in the studio and with Benga on production duties, the results have been nothing short of incendiary. Expect big things…
