Synth Presents...Boom Monk Ben

Chances are, if you were a student in Glasgow between 2008 and 2011 you would have experienced Thursday night at the Art School. In those three short years, student clubbing started to change and along with the likes of Killer Kitsch, weeknight partying started to reclaim its credibility. Standing proudly like a bastion to sub-rumbling bass, the Art School and Mixed Bizness Thursday’s gave people a real alternative, laying the groundwork for the many thriving nights that we know and love today. Where else could you hear Dubstep on a week night in 2008? Where else could you find Art students, curious casuals and Hip Hop baggies mixing in the one place? Mixed Bizness opened it right up, and if like us you were a Thursday night regular, then most of your praise should be directed towards Boom Monk Ben.
Mastermind behind Mixed Bizness, celebrated DJ and all round nice guy, Ben Coghill has done more for the Glasgow club scene then most. In what might be somewhat of an achilles heal; his addiction to throwing parties has truly benefited us all. From the aforementioned student Thursdays, to massive night’s at The Arches, Ben has strived to bring names to Glasgow which may otherwise have passed us by. Take monthly rave-up How’s Your Party?, once a weekly student night at the famed Sub Club, you could expect to find A Trak one week and a live performance by Chromo the next….at a student night! There was probably no one else in Britain doing that at the time, never mind Glasgow. It’s this uninhibited ambition which has made Ben the success he is today, and that counts for his skills as a DJ too. He’s played around the world, he’s played at festivals and he’s played in the heaving basement of a West End flat. No matter what the occasion, he always brings the party, feeling out the crowd with expert precision and taking them where they need to go.
With Mixed Bizness also being a highly successful DJ and artist agency with the likes of Mungo’s Hifi, DJ Moneyshot and super hyped up and comer HaHaHa on the roster, what Ben has achieved, along with his hard working associates is truly remarkable. In this, his first mix for Synth, you get a sense of his love for the music he promotes. Featuring 29 tracks squeezed into just over an hour, you’ll find all corners of the dancefloor covered as he moves through bass-driven Electro, jacked-up House, smooth-moving Garage and tricked-out Dubstep. This is the sound of Boom Monk Ben, prepare to dance.
