Local Hero: Ovr Kill - Ink On My Arm
![]()
LOCAL HERO:
It’s been impossible to ignore our hype of up and coming Tech House duo Ovr Kill, almost every song they’ve leaked has claimed our Local Hero award and with a highly anticipated EP incoming the excitement only grows. ‘Ink On My Arm’, is still only a demo but already sounds massive in all senses of the word. With their signature bassline firmly in place and an all-consuming breakdown to take things higher, this is nothing but quality from the boys once again. Look out for Ovr Kill in our ‘Synth Presents…’ series tomorrow.

Staying on a tech-tip, here is a new project from the ridiculously productive Dirty Basement boys. Moving away from the hard electro sound they’ve become known for and adopting deep grooves and rolling basslines, the amusingly titled ‘Baw Deep’ (‘balls deep’ for our non-Scottish readers) is a simple, yet effective number which creeps into your soul with an irresistible late-night flavour.

Slowing the pace a little, but retaining that gorgeous backroom appeal is the Tuff Wax signed Grobbie who only recently moved from his native Aberdeen to Glasgow. Building ever so delicately around a reflective synth, ‘Die For This’ is a deep slice of quality House which will seduce you from the very first note. Look out for more from Grobbie soon, we’re expecting big things.

Finally, it was only right we include this gorgeous slice of lo-fi electronica from Fall. Very nearly claiming our Local Hero award, the achingly beautiful ‘Wings’ is Massive Attack, Art Of Noise and Burial all rolled into one. Centered around a tear-jerking piano line and swirling with raw emotion, you’ll find it difficult not to be completely overwhelmed by this.
