“For 2016 we have made it our New Year’s resolution to make this year the label’s most productive year to date.”

We’re only three weeks into 2016 and Dixon Avenue Basement Jams have definitely kept their promise. Dropping a surprise digi-only release from Big Miz entitled ‘Safari Park Nonsense’, the Offbeat resident comes clean and correct with four rolling, rumbling, dancefloor-bothering weapons.

The lead track, ‘Foundations’, unleashes a nasty acid line while a hypnotic spoken-word sample burrows deep into your skull. It’s stripped-back and primed for three deck mega mixing – devastating in the right hands. ‘Morse Dance’ is more of a groove-driven affair, adopting a creeping bassline and classic piano stabs, while ‘Urgent’ could have easily featured on Big Miz’s DABJ debut, ‘Midnight Manhandle’, with lively drums and a soulful vocal sample. The last stop on the safari is ‘Winger’ which introduces another beastly acid line over background chatter and old school stabs. No nonsense here.
