Long term readers of SynthGlasgow might remember Chris McFarlane under his previous moniker, Mirrors, but having spent a couple years honing his sound, he’s now firmly back in the frame as Big Miz.

Hooking up with the incendiary Dixon Avenue Basement Jams for his debut release, the burgeoning producer has provided us with four jamming club tracks which join the dots between Detroit and Chicago. You may have already heard ‘Good Thing’ via Boiler Room Debuts – a jerking, jacking number which hooks you with a punchy vocal sample and simple groove – and we’re pleased to say the rest of the EP doesn’t disappoint either.

‘Electrolites’ picks up where ‘Good Thing’ leaves off, employing another satisfying vocal sample over dusty percussion and analogue synths, while ‘Solange’ and ‘Wurx (Live Jam)’ pump things up for an energetic workout; the latter verging into techno territory with an unrelenting beat and hypnotic bass.

Big Miz ‘Midnight Man Handle’ is forthcoming on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams. Catch him at Offbeat 028 with Monoxian High Command Terror Unit next Friday (21st) at La Cheetah.
